Prison Rape Elimination Act

The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was passed in 2003 to “provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, State, and local institutions and to provide information, resources, recommendations and funding to protect individuals from prison rape.”
Iowa State Penitentiary in coordination with Iowa Department of Correction’s resources has embraced the ideals of eliminating sexual assault in our institutions. There have been numerous measures put into place to ensure offenders are not victimized.

Rape and Sexual Abuse is an underreported crime according to the US Dept. of Justice. If you are aware of an offender who is experiencing sexual abuse you can report this anonymously to the Warden’s or Deputy Warden’s Office through multiple venues;  You can call 319-372-5432 ext. 23205#  or 41815 # or 41851# or 41846#.  Via email to nick.ludwick@iowa.gov, mark.roberts@iowa.gov or Rebecca.bowker@iowa.gov.
