Iowa Prison Industries

Iowa Prison Industries (IPI) is the work arm of the Iowa Department of Corrections, teaching offenders in our work programs skills needed to be successful citizens upon release.

IPI is 100% self-funding. Your purchases from IPI fund our valuable inmate programs, furthering the missions of the Department of Corrections and Iowa Prison Industries.

IPI's products and services are available to purchase by governmental agencies, school districts, non-profit groups and employees of these organizations.

Education

Iowa Correctional Education‘s mission is “to provide incarcerated individuals with educational opportunities and skills necessary to function successfully and responsibly in society upon their release”.  Iowa State Penitentiary coordinates adult education and literacy services through Southeastern Community College.  Instructors work with offenders to provide instruction in various styles and settings to accommodate different learning modalities.  Students have the opportunity to participate in Literacy, English as a Second Language, and High School Equivalency courses which helps prepare them to complete the HiSET tests (formerly GED).
