Iowa State Penitentiary has closed its doors on 175 years of history at the original location and have begun a new chapter at the new location. The difference in operations is a poignant illustration of the evolution of corrections and progression of supervision styles.

Video Visiting Begins on 04/10/2020. You must schedule your visit 72 hours in advance for approval. Each incarcerated individual may only have one visit per visiting Week. (Friday - Monday)

IDOC Cancels Visiting at All Prisons
DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Corrections has been implementing measures, policies and protocols to prevent the spread and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 in the state prisons.
Effective immediately, visiting has been cancelled at all state prisons until further notice. This is being done out of an abundance of caution for the department's vulnerable population.

All volunteer activities in the prisons are suspended until further notice. Volunteers will be contacted by email when this suspension is lifted.
